The evening of September 15th, 2019 saw dozens gather at the SAIT Tastemarket in downtown Calgary to take in Gourmet Soirée: A Culinary Experience Between Friends—a unique fundraising event for Calgary’s Between Friends. Designed to stoke the imaginations (and appetites) of attendees, Gourmet Soirée featured chefs from SAIT’s famous Culinary School demonstrating the fine arts of cooking, baking, and food preparation through five fully interactive food stations:
- charcuterie;
- forno (pizza);
- picanha tacos;
- double stuffed potatoes; and
- brownies and blondie bars.
In addition to the phenomenal food, Gourmet Soirée featured live music, silent auction, and exquisite wine pairings hand-selected by Linda Garson (founder of the Alberta Beverage Awards, and one of Calgary’s premier food and wine experts).

Between Friends
Founded in 1982, Between Friends is a charitable organization that supports people with disabilities in the Calgary area. Between Friends “provides quality social, recreation, and development opportunities so that people with disabilities can connect, grow, and belong.” By focusing on abilities (and not disabilities), Between Friends allows each person to establish their own goals and determine their own level of participation by facilitating programs that offer the social and recreational activities foundational to enriching self-esteem, quality of life, and overall health.
Between Friends offers a variety of programs to children, youth, and adults that reduce the barriers of isolation, and function as the building blocks of friendship. Programs offered by Between Friends include a number of fun activities, ranging from summer camps and weekend excursions, to laser tag and crafts.
