On Monday, June 16, 2025, the Earl Grey Golf Club once again played host to a powerful tradition—The Vipond Golf Tournament, benefitting the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre (DDRC). With perfect weather, stunning fairways, and an enthusiastic group of participants, this year’s tournament was more than just a day of sport—it was a heartfelt celebration of inclusion, compassion, and community.
For over four (4) decades, the partnership between Earl Grey Golf Club and the Vipond tournament has created lasting impact. Since 1980, this collaboration has raised over $2.7 million to support DDRC clients and the essential programs that help them thrive. And this year, the commitment to building a more inclusive Calgary was stronger than ever.
Driving Change: Supporting the DDRC’s LINK Program
While some may have come for the golf, everyone stayed for the mission. At the heart of the tournament lies the LINK Program—a vital initiative by the DDRC that supports both children and adults with communication needs.
Whether through assistive devices, speech supports, or American Sign Language (ASL) training, the LINK Program empowers individuals to express themselves and connect with the world around them. For people with developmental disabilities, this can be life-changing. Communication opens doors—to education, employment, relationships, and independence.
Golfers enjoyed a day filled with camaraderie, laughter, and friendly competition, followed by a lively and well-attended evening program that celebrated the spirit of giving.
After a day on the course, players and guests gathered at the clubhouse for the evening program—an elegant yet joyful close to a meaningful event.
The night kicked off with a 5:30 PM cocktail reception, allowing attendees to relax, mingle, and reflect on the day’s activities. At 6:30 PM, dinner was served, generously sponsored by Excel Homes, Bonterra Energy Corp, and Pipella Law. The meal was a fitting celebration of the day’s achievements and a time to honour everyone who contributed to the cause.
By 7:00 PM, the event shifted into high gear with:
- Team prizes recognizing both skill and spirit on the green;
- A live auction full of exciting experiences and generous bids;
- A 50/50 draw that added some extra suspense and fun;
- A creative and high-energy Dutch auction; and Closing remarks that reminded us why the day mattered.
