Pipella Law Again Joins SABIS to “Elf Yourself!”

Pipella Law is proud to have once again sponsored the annual SABIS “Elf Yourself!” Christmas Basket Program. As in previous years, Pipella Law has contributed to low-income Southern Alberta Brain Injury Society (SABIS) clients and their families through the “Elf Yourself!” Program, which helps those in need receive some much-needed warmth and cheer over the holiday season.

As the primary sponsors for the 2018 edition of the “Elf Yourself!” program, Pipella Law were able to brighten the holidays for 21 underprivileged families.

“Elf Yourself!” Christmas Basket Program

The “Elf Yourself!” Program is open to all—anyone and everyone can get involved in the event by sponsoring a SABIS client (or the family of a SABIS client) for as little as $100.

After matching with a client, sponsors have the option of delegating the shopping to the industrious “SABIS elves,” or directly purchasing items from client wish lists. Client wish lists are divided into basic and luxury items. Basic items can include, but are not limited to:

  • Grocery store gift cards;
  • Toiletries (like toothpaste, shampoo, and so on);
  • Transit passes or ticket books; and
  • Winter clothes (especially hats, gloves, and scarves).

Luxury items can include, but are not limited to:

  • Tickets for sporting or special events;
  • Toys; and
  • Store-specific gift cards (like electronics retailers or iTunes).

The busy SABIS elves maintain a list of the items commonly requested by their clients, and are happy to assist in filling up the baskets.

SABIS Gives All Year Round

The relief offered by SABIS doesn’t end with the holiday season; “incorporated under the Societies Act of Alberta in 1985 as a non-profit registered charity, SABIS offers lifelong supports and services. SABIS promotes open and inclusive communities for all persons regardless of the severity of their brain injury.”

SABIS is an organization that “provides support, coordination of services and education to survivors of acquired brain injury (ABI) and their families living in the Calgary Region.” ABI impacts thousands of Albertans every year, and is the leading cause of disability in 18-40 year olds, but SABIS believes that survivors of ABI deserve the dignity of living as independently as possible.

Pipella Law: Proud to Support “Elf Yourself!”

Some of the most common causes of ABI are vehicular collisions and household falls—tragedies that can happen to anyone. Just as organizations like SABIS strive to aid those suffering from ABI to lead independent lives, Pipella Law works to ensure that acquired brain injuries caused by the negligence or actions of others are financially compensated.

Strong community support—combined with financial security—can ease the trauma of acquired brain injuries and let the afflicted live a fulfilling life on their own terms.

As tireless advocates for the disabled both in, and out of, the courtroom, Pipella Law is proud to have supported the “Elf Yourself!” Christmas Basket Program.
