The 2025 YWHISPER Gala, hosted by YW Calgary, took place on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the newly developed BMO Centre. This fundraising event brought together supporters, business leaders, and advocates to raise awareness and funds for programs that support women and their families. Over the past 12 years, the gala has raised more than $5 million, for the Calgary community.
This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw, a Scholar in critical race theory and the creator of the concept “intersectionality.” Her address focused on how overlapping social identities—including race, gender, and class—shape “lived” experiences and influence systemic inequalities.
The evening included a panel discussion with Brandi Morin, an Indigenous Journalist and storyteller from Treaty 6 territory in Alberta, moderated by Jenny Steele, a local Television Producer.
Attendees supported the cause through an online auction featuring items and experiences, including a Broadway trip to Chicago, a luxury hotel stay, and fine dining. Funds from the gala supported YW Calgary’s mission to help women experiencing domestic violence find safety, achieve economic stability, and build stronger futures.
The event was made possible thanks to many sponsors, including Pipella Law, whose support helped extend the evening’s impact.
The 2025 YWHISPER Gala focused on advocating for gender equity and social change. Those who attended, or contributed were part of efforts to create lasting effects in the community.
